1966 Football Cardinals-or the 18th Consecutive Year of Not Making the Playoffs

Ninety-Sixty Six would see the Big Red miss the post season for the 18th consecutive season. They would finish the season with a record of 8-5-1 and 4th in the NFL Eastern Division.

The 1966 team would continue with their core of vets-Charley Johnson, All-Pro Jackie Smith, Bobby Joe Conrad, Sonny Randle, All-Pro First Team Larry Wilson, All-Pro Jerry Stovall, All-Pro Chuck Walker, All-Pro Ken Gray, All-Pro Joe Robb, and Jim Bakken.

The only 1966 rookie Johnny Roland HB/PR who would make the All-Pro team in this his first year.  Non-rookies with their “rookie” cards in 1966-Willis Crenshaw, Sam Silas, and Bill Triplett.

One fan favorite that didn’t get his rookie card but made his debut is Jim Hart. He got into 1 game making 4 completions for 29 yards.

As with the previous two years Philadelphia Gum was the only NFL card player. The front is pretty straight forward-posed shot framed in white with box at top with team and player info and the MLB logo. While the front is Vertical, the reverse in horizontal. The reverse is green divided in two by trademark info. On the right side is a “Guess Who” quiz and the left is a bottom box with some player trivia, and above that player bio. There are 13 Cardinal cards in the set including a team card and a Cardinals Play card that feature Bill Triplett rushing against the Giants. I love this card, you can actually see the dust kicked up.

Thanks to my recent sports collectable show this team set is complete. I am unaware of any oddball cards for 1966.
