Throw Back Uniforms

I have been checking out the Bay for 2014 Topps Heritage Yadis and came across the throw back SP (1:3,175 hobby packs) that is going for $100 bills. I have always had an interest in uniforms be it baseball, football, and the military. Some where in a box of books in my parent's basement is a great coffee table book on the history of baseball uniforms which includes illustrations of all uniforms of all Major League teams to have existed up until the book was published. Then I was researching some Yadi stats for the card of the week and the Baseball-Reference.com website had a link to a Baseball Hall of Fame uniform database Dressed to the Nines. Pretty cool.

  1. Dressed to the Nines is a great site... so is Baseball-Reference. Are you going to pull the trigger and pick up that card?

  2. That book you're remembering is (I think) Marc Okkonen's Baseball Uniforms of the Twentieth Century. And, before the internet, it was the most invaluable and valuable resource available if you were trying to figure out when a photo was taken. Now, that Dressed to the Nines site is about as good as it gets.

    1. Your are correct. It was Okkonen's book. I think I must have wore it out.

  3. I'm a huge baseball reference fan too. Can't wait to hear what you decide on that card as well.

  4. Great find! It's really wise to keep track of these kinds of history, so you can keep tabs on legacies and trends. Taking note of things that run parallel in significance to the practice and the furtherance of baseball, which is about as duty bound to continuity as sports can get. Have a good one!
